OK not sure it this helps, but is autoarchival turned on? I know it was on Office 2007 by default so it would archive older email if you did not turn that off in install.

The strange thing is the structure is intact after the reinstallation but some mails have disappeared in many of the folders. Any idea how to recover these mails? I am particularly not a Mac fan, we just seem to land into issues with Macs.
