I agree. The comp being in "public" can be a huge deterrent. We don't let our kids take the laptop/mini to their room(s).

I have found that computers in public areas of the house solves so many potential issues. More then most of the 'technological' solutions do actually. So, protect it from malware and then manage user expectations in a way consistent with their family needs.
