Hmm, we don't recognise 7e as a hex number - it's assumed that the number is
base 10, not base 16.
If it's allowable to use hex here, then we need to:
1) Recgonise that it's not a decimal value, but a hex value
2) convert the string as a base 16 string.
We can only assumed that anything with a [a-f] in it is hex, otherwise it's
decimal since /128 is very different if using base 10 to base 16.
