--- Comment #3 from Anurag S. Maskey <Anurag.Maskey at Sun.COM> 2010-02-03

I think the reason nis/client is offline is because identity:domain is in
maintenance mode and nis/client has a dependency on it. identity:domain being
in maintenance mode is related to CR 6920199.
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6920199
http://monaco.sfbay/detail.jsf?cr=6920199

I was able to recreate a similar situation as follows:

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcs identity:domain
STATE STIME FMRI
online 15:44:05 svc:/system/identity:domain

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcadm mark -t maintenance identity:domain

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcs identity:domain
STATE STIME FMRI
maintenance 15:41:53 svc:/system/identity:domain

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcs nis/client
STATE STIME FMRI
disabled 15:42:06 svc:/network/nis/client:default

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcadm enable -t nis/client

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcs nis/client identity:domain
STATE STIME FMRI
offline 15:42:12 svc:/network/nis/client:default
maintenance 15:41:53 svc:/system/identity:domain

When identity:domain is cleared:

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcadm clear identity:domain

anurag at dell-xps:~$ svcs nis/client identity:domain
STATE STIME FMRI
online 15:44:05 svc:/system/identity:domain
online 15:44:05 svc:/network/nis/client:default

The fix for CR 6920199 has been included in the nwam1_133 build. Please test
with that build and see if this issue remains.

I'll leave this bug as INCOMPLETE in case the issue is something different.
