Hi guys, I'm the organiser of the event and I asked Liz to send out emails to some mailing lists for people who might be interested in the event but aren't aware of the group yet. So Liz shouldn't be the one to take the blame for this.
I would just like to address Will's argument that the events are discriminatory: First of all, Girl Geek events worldwide are generally open to everyone, but in order to ensure that the numbers are balanced, guys will need to bring a lady. No one is excluded, and we always have a few men at the events who seem to be enjoying it as well. So we hope that someone - male or female - is interested in the event Secondly, I don't know who has signed up to this mailing list, but I presume that there are *some* women here, so saying that posting something that is mainly intended for women on this mailing list hat if it was a "Ruby NW Women" group? Would that be discriminatory? I doubt anyone would feel offended by this - which brings me to my final point: The main problem I see here is that the announcements are off topic, which I agree with. We will not post any further non-Ruby related announcements on this mailing list. Wll, I would also ask you to close this topic, as I don't think that any further discussion is necessary.
