- Is the card Orinoco or Dell branded (unfortunately this *does* make a
difference)?
- Do you have an install CD for the card?

I installed an Avaya branded card on a Dell Inspiron just a couple of days
ago. There was no specific ME driver for it, so I used the Win 98 driver
(as advised in their FAQ). Specifically, what I did was:

1. Installed Avaya Client Manager
2. Inserted my silver card
3. *Stupidly* Tried to persuade Windows to use an Orinoco driver when it
couldn't find a correct driver itself (this does work with XP however).
4. Wised up and told Windows to use Avaya 98 driver (that I copied from the
Avaya CD).
5. Finally surfed wirelessly :)

If you don't have a CD or want to check for more up to date drivers, check
out the Orinoco
<http://www.orinocowireless.com/template.html?section=m52&envelope=90> or
Dell <http://support.dell.com/us/en/filelib/> sites.

Subject: [nycwireless] Orinico Windohs trouble

I just got a new Dell Latitude with Windows ME on it.
My plan is to put Linux on it soon, but I thought I could try this wireless
stuff under WinME.

I loaded the software - I think following the sparse notes included with it,
and when I insert the card, the system detects the card, but it can't find a
driver for it.

Now, when I install the silver card, it is not prompting me.
When I install the gold card, it does prompt me, then it searches the whole
CD,
but does not find anything Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks
Seth
