Not sure what the configuration tool is that came with your card but usually there is an option to "scan" for a network, either that or adjust your network name to "www.nycwireless.net" (without the quotes) and you should be able to connect. I was skeptical too as there was a node by my place that simply just didn't work but tried Bryant Park the other day and worked fine. Not sure if everyone is in sync with that SSID.
