I'd suggest this may now only be built into VPN gear,
which is reducing in price and becoming more usable,
even for smaller offices.  But, let's hear from
others.  

We need a network OS more than anything else.  It
should be modular to add applications as possible, of
open-source architecture, and made free to all
non-profit municipal networks.  Networks can be
controlled not only by ownership of the physical
hardware, but also the applications platform.

But, I won't tell you I'm working on this, to avoid
being cursed and flamed, and being banned from the
list after defending myself...  

Shades of NoCatAuth...  where are the archives?  Well,
at least the public ones?
