After a couple hours of searching for the WFIB while birding the Timber Point/Hecksher vicinity, I decided to check the extensive marshland just east of Timber Point, on the other side of the Connetquot River. I finally came across the WFIB and 28 accompanying ibis circling low over the Ludlow Creek marsh in Oakdale around 2:45pm. It appeared that the birds had taken off from immediately to the west (possibly from the marsh off Blue Point Rd). After a few minutes, the flock continued off, tracking low and eastward over the former Bourne Estate. I searched the West Sayville Golf Course and marsh just to the east, where there is extensive prime habitat to no avail. Other highlights locally included a Louisiana Waterthrush in the upland wet creek at Ludlow, the larids and shorebirds noted by Shai earlier as well as 4 additional Lesser Black-backs at Robert Moses this morning and a white-winged gull closely resembling a putative Nelson's Gull at Hecksher. All were Between one puddle on the fairway closest to the East Marina and another active puddle on the fairway near the west marina.
