I have just been through a super-frustrating process trying to find a backpack for my 18" HP Laptop to take overseas. I was about to give up and buy an uber-expensive 'normal' laptop bag from DSE that I didn't really want, then my wife convinced me to try The Warehouse. I humoured her, but didn't really expect them to have anything.
They have a huge range of backpacks with laptop slots in them - as someone else mentioned, most of the schoolbags have laptop compartments. I found one that will fit the laptop for only $65 (requires small mods though). If the laptop was 15" or 17" instead of 18", then there is heaps to choose from at the red shed.
