Hi You need to be careful what U intend to use it for, a netbook will never be a laptop, just as a laptop will never be a gaming computer. Mobile internet is hellish expensive in this country too, so that will never substitute for your fixed connection. I am contemplating a cheapo prepay connection as insurance to open emails and look at an ocaisional web page I you can't get online for free when out of the office/home. A lot of people except gamers are replacing their desktop with a spec'd up laptop, me included. A lot of techs are carrying netbooks for specific purposes., not expecting too much of them otherwise. me included, I may get one just to avoid lugging my around everywhere...So I too looked into this..I like the HP1000 keyboard. I may get a netbook but I will wait a bit because.....The atom processor in netbooks was designed for very long battery life, but is hampered at present by weak chipset support and cut down bus speeds. I would expect improvements yet.
For a laptop all the ram you can cram, even a graphics card to free ram, Vista is a ram hogging mongrel OS. XP is going to be deprecated soon. Windoze 7 is way better anyway, and whats more it will run netbooks much sweeter. As for a mac - I am not knocking the quality etc., better sw integration etc. but U are still paying an 50% price premium... I would also use one if someone bought me one. Keith.
