PS There was another (membership) website I saw for family trees that invited 
new users to began with the GUI interface
 -> 4 blank squares for the initial child/parents (ie the initial family) 
-> once completed, new 'blank areas' open up for possible grand parents/etc 
related to those entries

- then you just keep adding on to each element in the GUI building up the tree 

- this may have been a flash/flex driven front-end - zoom, pan, up-down
