We use EC2 for the following uses and following reasons - Getting customers closer to a particular market, specifically outside US - True off-site backup outside NZ. This can be expensive if data growth is high because of International traffic charges, but for us it is normally not. - Having a predicatable hosting company. On this, I normally go for a hosting company where I can build a relationship. For larger customers, price is rarely a problem, but reliability and "shit-hits the fan"-reaction are much more important.. If you have found that where you need it (like Lenz) good, but otherwise its trial and error. because no-one deals with you personally at Amazon, this makes them reliable as well.
