How should we handle this for the upcoming 1.0 release? Should we just

I would drop both.
oak-mk-perf: See http://markmail.org/message/neiolq4gd2kjseod
oak-doc: We only use this for the web site, so I'd rather move it out
of trunk to a separate svn subtree. There's no stopping us from
keeping version-specific copies of the documentation with this
approach (see http://tika.apache.org/ for an example), and keeping the
docs out of the release artifacts gives us a chance to improve and fix
the documentation over time.
However we would forfeit having the docs close to the source code. This
is something that worked very well in the past couple of month as it was
very easy for everyone to update the docs along with whatever she/he was
doing to the code. I'm in favour of moving oak-docs to a location of its
own if we at the same time can somehow keep the close integration for devs.
