1 - comfort is very important to the pro. I don't know if it was hot or how
long it was. I'll watch the recap later.
2 - aerodynamics are less important when you're in the draft of the other
teammates. Some of the team riders might have been doing limited pulling -
perhaps their role was to give a wheel or bike up if needed.
3 - Perhaps there was a tailwind which would have made aerodynamics lees
important.

Any aerodynamicists, TT specialists out there who might have some
answers to what (I thought) was an unusual occurance in today's
Tour de France Team Time Trial?
I would have assumed that wind tunnel tests would have confirmed
the usefullness or not of hard shell aerodynamic helmets for TT's
on predominantly flat ground courses. (I assume they must have a
limited advantage on mtn. TTs). Yet today we saw some riders with
bare heads, others with bandanas, still others with the usual bike
cap, plus the hard shell helmet in both aero and non-aero styles.
This was seen even within the same team.
