I purchased a Trail-a Bike a couple of years ago for my then 5
yearold grandson. I had no problems attaching it, although the clamp had a
tendency to pinch the seat post, which did not become apparent until I
switched bikes. The attachment is sturdy, but heavy. It attaches the
stoker's bike by a clamp which grips the head tube and clamps the front
wheel by means of a pop-in stay. The entire set-up is quick release and the
tow bar telescopes in and clips to the frame of the towing bike.
The whole assembly does have a tendency to sway, especially if the
stoker decides that it is fun thing to do, however, at no time did I feel
that this compromised control. The same cannot be said if the stoker decides
to start randomly applying the coaster brake. In this case, however, it is
not control that is the concern but the ability of the motor to maintain
momentum.
All in all, I would say that the trail-a-bike is good for a
leisurely spin on quiet roads or on the bikepath, but I would not recommend
it for long, fast rides on the open road. My grandson has now outgrown the
trail-a-bike, so if anyone is interested in buying one, mine is now for sale
for $75.
