I like using the trail-a-bike. I have also used it with a trailer attached to the
trail-a-bike as well. The only time I have had significant problems is when the two
boys in the trailer were doing a lean to your right, lean to your left scenario. In
total I was pulling about 100 lbs of children with a single bike. Needless to say
going up some hills and I was reintroduced to granny gear with visions of Smugglers'
Notch flashing through my head. In reality, it was a small hill. Of course trailers
can catch a cross wind quite nicely.

My daughter does say the trail-a-bike is more wobbly than the tandem. Her biggest
complaint with the tandem is that she feels she too high off the ground. That what she
gets for having a tall father.

I do find that it is much easier to handle on my touring single bike, designed to take
a load and which has a longer wheel base than my other single bike (mountain etc.)

We also purchased extra seatpost attachments that enables it to be attached to the
different bikes .

We have taken her on longer trips with no problems. As with any vehicle that is longer
you are not quite a manoeuvrable.

The other reason, I like the idea of the trail-a-bike is the role modelling that
occurs.

P.S. I am not sure how you would get on but you could check out the Tandem at Hobbes
site archives which had a recent discussion about the tandem trail-a-bike (two
seater).
