Tropical Storm Bill became the first hurricane
of the 2009 Atlantic season Monday but remained far from any land, the
U.S. National Hurricane Center said.Bill's
sustained winds reached to nearly 75 miles per hour as it churned
through the Atlantic Ocean more than 1,160 miles east of the Lesser
Antilles islands of the Caribbean, the hurricane center said.Earlier Monday

Florida panhandle and is seen reaching southern Alabama, when it will
likely weaken to a tropical depression, the Hurricane Center said.Early
Monday, Tropical Storm Ana, which had faded to a tropical depression on
Sunday and was expected to weaken further, was moving quickly
west-northwest across the northeastern Caribbean sea.Ana is forecast to cross
the coast of the Dominican Republic later Monday with maximum sustained winds
near 35 mph.

NEW YORK - Harga minyak mentah tercatat mengalami penurunan terbesar selama
dua minggu terakhir. Hal ini terjadi setelah para konsumen merasa kurang
percaya diri karena melihat laporan data yang menunjukkan kelemahan ekonomi.
Harga minyak mentah jatuh ke level USD3,01 atau setara dengan 4,27 persen ke
posisi USD67,51 per barel. Sedangkan minyak jenis London Brent harganya jatuh
sebanyak USD1,07 sehingga berada di posisi USD72,41per barel.
Dilanjutkannya, penurunan tersebut adalah yang terbesar sejak 29 Juli lalu.
Yakni sesudah survei yang dilakukan oleh Universitas Michigan mengenai
konsumen, dilaporkan bahwa konsumsi mengalami penurunan terendah di awal
Agustus ini sejak Maret lalu. Hal ini terefleksi dari indeks Wall Street yang
mengalami pelemahan pada akhir pekan ini.
"Turunnya harga minyak mentah tersebut, diikuti dengan imbas stok di pasar dan
sesudah survei konsumen dilaporkan. Selain itu, konsumen percaya akan kejatuhan
harga minyak pada awal bulan ini," kata Analis MF Global Research Tom Pawlicki
di Chicago, seperti dikutip dari Reuters, Sabtu (15/8/2009).
Selanjutnya, harga minyak diprediksi akan berlipat ganda pada musim dingin
pada Desember menjadi lebih rendah yakni sekira USD33 per barel. Yakni karena
kebutuhannya diperkirakan meningkat, sehingga optimisme pasar akan bangkit.
