Sorry that my last message had no subject... seems my mailer decided to
forget to notify me.

In regards to the PHP idea, I am working on a PHP conversion right now
which I hope to have completed in a week or two. Once that is done, I will
consider taking on Obs. I believe this code is fairly OOP type programming.
Several issues occur in converting Perl OOP to PHP OOP, but they are ones I
have dealt with in the past. I am interested in knowing if there is a base
of users interested in using a PHP3 compliant code base, or if PHP4 is
suitable for most people. There are alot more things that can be done from
a programming persepective with PHP4 that make conversion much easier.

In regards to the album issue. Many of the tracks I have compiled for my
stream are from albums with several different artists, basically
compilations and soundtracks. If I was a user who was browsing an Obs
interface, there might be several miscellaneous artists with just one entry
for each album. Being able to select and view the albums themselves with
each artist's contribution would be a nicer way of looking at these
entries, and might be useful in viewing other items.

Perhaps the best way of looking at this would be to take a site like
CD-NOW, Amazon or MP3.com and determine how they display different searches
and provide interfaces to the DB based on these ideas. I think the current
Obs interface is very nice for a site admin or DJ to build up playlists and
modify information, but its not as useful to a user who might want to make
a request. In an environment with a large number of files, search based
criterias for selecting songs is somewhat difficult.

On another side note, I've noted of late that when using Obs as a streamer,
that my Icecast server segfaults on occasion. This may be a result of using
the new 1.3.8beta2 version of Icecast rather than Obs, but I wanted to see
if anyone else has experienced the same issue. I did not have the same
problems with using my custom IceS modules.

Yet another question: When I start obsd with obsctl, there are several
processes running. Since I only run one stream, what are these other
processes doing?

Thanks -- the install stuff took almost as much time to create as the
original software did. :-)

Yup. Browsing and filtering base on genre would be awesome too.

What do you mean by that?

I'd love to see what you come up with. I'd like to give users a choice
in user interfaces...
