I radio-ed the SAPS about an hour and a half ago i.r.o. a trolley- pushing-gent who (at the time) was pushing his grey, plastic trolley in Wesley towards Milton. The person who responded to me was very indistinct and I could hardly hear what he was saying to me. I managed to grasp that he would call up a patrol car and get them to check out this man whose trolley was full of stuff which was covered up with what appeared to me to be a baby's blanket. Seven minutes later the SAPS had not arrived. I was tracking this man and when he then moved along Wesley towards Station Rd, I went to Helen's place to ask HER to also pse contact the W/stock station. She did. 3 minutes later - still nothing. Then we saw the van moving from Lytton into Milton Rd. By this time I had lost sight of the trolley pusher who I'd last seen in Station Rd. At this point I also lost my enthusiasm to track him further.
A disheartening response. Personally, I don't see any merit in having a radio at the W/stock station and not in a patrol car. It seems to me a waste of precious time. And this attempt at calling the police proved futile. The situation seems to imply that we should revert to use of cell phones and has me question the worth of the radios..... Makes me want to put the 2-way to bed...... --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
