Hello Frank Your sketch is not accurate.....
What happened *from my side* was that at an unknown time, I overheard you struggling to make contact (a) with the SAPS, (b) with Whiskey 8 (whom you referred to, if I recall correctly, as *Sierra Whiskey 8* - easy for the best of us to do esp. in a tricky moment), and (c) with "....any other Oscars out there." I think I heard Whiskey 8 get back to you. There was no response from the SAPS. Oscar 20 also made contact with you. That was it. I continued listening without coming in to see how things would unravel..... Eventually, sensing you & Osc. 20 were pretty alone out there (....never a good feeling), I came on air and said that I would try to contact the SAPS on my cell phone. Which I then did. Making contact (on W/stock Office Commissioner's number) with a Captain Mogwenge (I am not sure of the spelling of his name - sorry for that). He (Capt M.) then told me that he would dispatch SW18 to Trill Rd in response to the mugging. I think I then heard you (again) reporting no SAPS presence on the radio. I responded that I'd be there shortly. [Around this time, I think that Osc. 20 was trailing the suspect in fancy shirt and designer jeans......who had allegedly mugged the young woman. Which I know he gave up following because.........well............what can one do alone in these instances but follow a suspect ?] I know the feeling and it can be very disheartening. On my way to get mobile, I stopped over at my neighbour Alan's place to ask if he could lend us a hand and bring his Tazer along. It wasn't a good time for him and he was unprepared. Again: apologies to you, Alan, for waking Tristan when I rang your bell. I was on Auto Pilot and wasn't moving slowly enough to consider the ramifications of my actions........or I wouldn't have done this. Unbeknown to me, Alan did go to one of the scenes and then returned home for which many thanks. I then ran to my scooter and met with you, Frank, in Roman Rd. Here you said there was not much that could be done because the SAPS had not arrived. Whiskey 8 was with you but seemed unable to take any sort of action. Having spoken twice on my cell phone to Capt. M. I was a bit surprised and said that I would go to the station and speak to him to see if I could find out what may have happened to the dispatching of SW18. When I got to the W/stock Station, I was told by an Insp. Mchichingwa (....again can't recall his name - in mitigation I was laid up with bad bronchitis when I came in on your radio-call-out and wasn't feeling too well) who told me that Capt. M. had taken a colleague home to Mfuleni. So I was unable to speak to him to find out what had happened to SW18. I therefore asked the Inspector whether he could try to get SW18 to Roman Road to assist you. He said he would. I then returned to Roman Road to find that there were, by this time, no Oscars out there. However, SW18 had arrived. And Whiskey 8 had also left. I asked him (SW18) if he had the ONW radio and he said that he didn't and hurriedly gave me reasons, which I'm afraid, feeling as I was, I didn't have the energy to take in. The young woman who had been mugged by two men was at this scene and was pretty upset. She said she knew who her mugger was. I can't recall if she said she also knew where he stayed.....I *think* she did tho.... The description of the person she and Osc. 20 mentioned in the context of the mugging, seemed to me to fit with the description of a gent from higher up the continent (that is to say a very dark-skinned gent, short and stocky) who (I suspect) has been working Wesley Road and very possibly Eden Road (gained access to Wunders by climbing up a down pipe). This description was what propelled me out of bed to get to the scene to see if I cld see him and to see if there was any way i may be able to help..... Also in Roman Rd were the two gents who had lost their battery to the two coloured guys who then tried to hop aboard a Taxi in Main Rd. They were thrown off the Taxi by the driver apparently and then made their way back to a property in Roman Rd where they entered.......and disappeared. Feeling there was not much more that I could do, I left the scene and returned home. Using my cell phone I made every effort too contact the W/stock Station around the time of the comms between Osc. 32 and Osc. 20 . So it is not correct to say that we should have used our cell phones on finding radio contact ineffective. However, when I left home to go to Roman Rd, I forgot to take my phone with me. I was sick and in a hurry to get there. I also can't comment on the time factor because I did not have my watch on me and in the heat of the moment, I wouldn't have considered it important to get my watch to do time checks. Hope that helps to clarify a bit. On Jun 10, 12:50 pm, Frank Schuitemaker <[email protected]> wrote: > A mugging of an African lady occurred nearby Station and Oxford Road > around 20:40.
