Hi
This is not really my area, but the only way to get a full picture of
crime in Obs would be if everyone were to report every incident to the
Woodstock Police (and preferably also to us). Many minor incidents go
unreported because people feel its too much trouble to report it, or
because the incident won't be covered by insurance. (Insurance
companies require a case number, which is what forces people to report
an incident.) We do keep urging people to report crimes, however
minor, but there's not much we can do if they don't. If the Woodstock
Police had a full record of crimes committed in their area, it would
also help them to motivate for extra personnel. Like many police
stations, they are seriously understafffed. It is likely that much
more crime goes unreported in other sectors (e.g. Sector 2, Salt
River).
At the recent Sector 1 meeting (9 July) we agreed to publicise efforts
to make the Customer Service Centre (i.e. the desk where we go to
report crimes) more user-friendly. We'll post something on this group
soon.
