Shame I am sorry to hear about your break in. I had some one climb in through my bathroom window as well - he was really quiet - the only reason I heard him was because of my clever attack cat! Clearly house break-ins in Obs are on the increase - we must all be more vigilant in putting on alarms etc at night.

At approximately 03:45 I was woken up by Sgt Luzipho and Constable Bali. I immediately realised that something seriously had to be wrong for them to be inside my house. We established that my car (a 1972 VW Beetle!) had been stolen, as well as things like my plasma screen tv, laptop, 1 TB external hard drive, iPod, handbag with contents (camera, another 250G external hard drive, diary, purse), the purse of a friend who was sleeping over (cards subsequently used at Grand West, the Spur, Kuilsriver), etc. They were very picky and ignored cheap electronic stuff like a printer and scanner. They also took their time about it and used keys to open everything once they were in. They were considerate enough to take only the car key off my bunch of keys and to leave the house and other keys in a flowerpot on the stoep. I ask you! To enter they opened a sash window (the only one with a broken latch), climbed through the burglar bars (heaven knows how they got through) and proceeded to burgle the house. My two friends who were sleeping over and I did not hear a thing nor did we wake up. Considering the noise that a Beetle makes and the fact that the stuff was carried out the front door which is about two metres from my bed, it's virtually impossible. We are convinced that some or other gas must have been used to dope us, because we all woke up with sore and very dry throats but felt as if we had slept for ages. Sgt Luzipho and Constable Bali were in Station Rd when they saw the Beetle driving along with the doors flapping, so they pursued it. The thieves drove across the bridge at River Club and into the veld on the left-hand side of Valkenburg where they abandoned the car and fled. Thanks to the quick and efficient intervention of Sgt Luzipho, Constable Bali and Constable Pienaar, one of the thieves was caught. Unfortunately two escaped. I've been told that the one that was caught has been connected to 10 other burglaries. Thanks to the quick action of the Woodstock police, I have managed to retrieve most of my possessions and for that I'm very grateful. I still need to establish what the damage to my car has been, but at least I still have it or at least I'll have it once I get it back from the police! And now I sleep with the alarm on at night too and the windows have been doubly secured. The information in this e-mail is confidential and may be legally privileged.
