Hi Andrew, Although I have stated my opinion on this poll, this time I would like to add my comments.
I am sure that you will appreciate that, though well intentioned, this poll is very limited, because of the following reasons: 1. It is limited to those who are members of this forum and per definition those who have access to internet. There are more people who are affected by this and that includes people who are non-residents, who have the right to use the subway daily. Typically these people are exactly the ones who will oppose the closure once it is presented in the right forum. 2. It is by no means scientific and carries no weight other than an informal online opinion poll to a select audience. For example Question 1 Do you think the Wrench road Subway is Problem(?). This offers no qualification whatsoever as to what constitutes a problem right from the outset. Question 2: The solutions are at best cryptic and do not include other explanations as to who is responsible for which solution and who will ultimately foot the bill. These are simply not realistic options if the person being surveyed does not have enough information to make any sort of informed choice. As to asking for details on the next page, a large many people surveyed are probably tenants. How are the owners of the property being canvassed for their opinions, being the ones responsible for rates and taxes and having the final say on what affects their property? Finally, the survey does not state what you will do with the information. This is only mentioned at the end of this e-mail and should be made clear from the outset and what exactly constitutes "enough feedback"? What is Obsid going to do with it? What I would like to suggest is that a proper study should be done regarding the usage of the subway, the findings which can be presented as inclusive and based on fact in the right forum. I think that anybody would agree that this is a community issue and that any solution should be based on an inclusive process or this whole effort to manage the problem of crime, which would include restricting access to the subway. I am personally wholly for limiting access through the subway and would like to see such an effort to succeed by going about it in a realistic manner. The whole process has to be based on what can be reasonably achieved through reasonable means and that would include proper facts and suggestions, consultations and consensus supported by the whole community, otherwise it is an exercise in futility. My point is everyone cannot have their say in this forum. Kind regards, Johann du Plooy 2010/1/11 Andrew Fife <[email protected]> > Hi Johann and other residents > > A poll was started.
