Kris - with reference to what happened at 56 Oxford Road. You are right with regards to the burglary. We (as owners) were perplexed as to why our alarm didn't go off and send a signal to ADT to alert us, because when we arrived home, realised that there was movement in the house as 3 sensors were activated. Front window glass removed by removing putty and putting solid piece of glass on the ground. Luckily for us nothing was stolen, and house was in original state as left the morning.
What happened also during the day is that our Black-Eyed-Susan caught fire. The creeper covered the whole front of our boundary wall and we think that someone (maybe the same perpetrators that did the burglary) threw a cigarette into the undergrowth, and that is what caused the fire. Luckily residents further down Oxford street saw the fire, and start putting it out with water and hosepipes. Apparently it was getting a bit out of hand. They managed to put out the fire. Subsequently 2 coloured men proceeded to clean up the front of the house and put all the burnt material into refuse bags. No-one asked them to do this?!?!?! Anyway, firstly I want to thank the residents further down in Oxford Rd for being vigilant and putting out the fire. If it got out of hand and started to burn the big Oak tree next to it, all our houses would've caught fire. I will still go and thank him personally, but feel that I have to mention it. Secondly, we can count ourselves very lucky(?), as the fire was doused and nothing was stolen in our house from the break-in. Hence, we'll have to remove all dead material from the front wall and paint and up the security to our house. ADT did come within 1 minute after I phoned them to alert them to what happened. They are sending someone out today to check alarm and system at house. They phoned me yesterday to arrange this. Vetus Schola wasn't aware of anything that happened during the day (although there was a fire in the street) but subsequently came later the evening at about 20:30 when alerted about what happened. They were then informed to do 30 minute checks in the area for the night. This was subsequently done. As stated by Kris, I do not hope that crime is going to pick up again in our area due to the cancellation of the ADT Bicycle Patrol. If the Bicycle Patrol was there, the fire would've been noted immediately... -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
