Thanks Bev...........Another example of the very serious and growing drug problem in Observatory. The amount of Heroin being sold in and distributed from Observatory is unacceptable. I have become aware of a seven months pregnant woman heroin addict who continues to use and prostitute herself and who alleges that a man living not very far from the Methodist Church (address has been supplied) continues to pimp her and supply her. It appears many residents are totally unaware of the existence of and extent of the drug trade in Observatory. This situation has developed under the noses of SAPS, and a handful of residents myself included are becoming increasingly disgruntled at the under performance of the SAPS in Observatory. 'Disgruntled' is putting it mildly. Vetus Schola with substantially limited powers of arrest and intervention (compared to SAPS) is doing a far better job on the streets by far.

   * VS rid our streets of the 'car guards' who were a scourge on our
     streets at night. (Car break-burglaries)
   * VS rid our streets of several of the minor street dealers (Drugs)
   * VS has identified six 'drug' houses and is aware of several
more. The SAPS either dont gather any 'Intelligence', arent aware
of the problem or dont have the will or resources to do anything
     about it.

The licensed establishments who conduct the bulk of the drug trade mentioned above do so with impunity and are openly scornful of the police. Groove Lounge closed for business at 08h00 this morning!!!! (as reported by VS). On the 17th of February the police held a meeting at the Obs Com centre and addressed the Liquor license holders in Obs and Ward 57. They were told to tow the line or else. They went back to their businesses and carried on as before.
Its mayhem out there neighbours.
The status quo: police forums, regular meetings with the police, Sector meetings, CPF's and the like, is not working. Anybody who says it is is like the man standing on the poop deck of the Titanic shouting in a jolly and enthusiastic voice *'We're not sinking, no, were not sinking!*

Just been told by a Wesley St resident that she spotted a chap
shooting up (three times) in the corner of the Methodist Church
grounds, just off the road and in full view of anyone who may have
passed by, yesterday.

She was at a loss to know what to do so I suggested that if she sees
this again to contact Vetus Schola who would assist her.
