Yip! It's the Bandana Man. Legally I don't think there is anything one can do about a "scammer" but telephone VS next time and they will escort him out of the area. That is what they have asked us to do.

I live on Rochester Road and the same guy came to me there a little
while back, claiming he was staying in a house nearby and had locked
himself out. He also said something about working with people in
Masiphumelele - it seems to be part of his script (and would be
completely irrelevant for someone who is actually locked out of their
home). I recognised his voice over the intercom, because he came
several times to my office on Lower Main Road and claimed that his
vehicle "full of school children from Masiphumelele" had run out of
petrol. Always, the vehicle and school children were somewhere far
away out of sight, and he had no money, phone or ATM card on him. He
was clearly scamming for money - no one has that bad luck with running
out of petrol in the same place with the same long-suffering bunch of
kids in tow.

When he came with the "locked out" story recently, and I thought he
must be the same scammer, I asked him which house he lived in, as I
know my neighbours pretty well. He was very evasive on this point. (On
the corner. Which corner? What colour is the house? Um...) Then he
tried claiming he knew "the guys" I live with. I told him his story
didn't add up, to which he responded "why, aren't there any guys
living there, is it just you" and I ended the conversation.

Is he facing any charges arising from his scamming? I'm just wondering
whether there is any point in calling Vetus Schola when he next pops
up at one of our houses or offices, or do we just let him know that we
are wise to his scams and he can move on?
