I wonder how long this objector has been living in Obs and whether he/she has any history with our "space". Invite him/her to the table to hear exactly what the objections are and if he/she wants to conform to regulations maybe he/she should take over the management and organisation of these precious "little spaces". At present these parks are looking at the best they have in a long time and if you have been in the area for some time you have to acknowledge that there has been a vast improvement - this due to being secure and safe and the local residents accepting responsibility for what happens there - so mr/ms whoever you may be - put some real weight behind your objection and give the residents your motivation for wanting to conform to regulations. I strongly object to the parks in Observatory being "open 24/7" . They need to remain locked and secure at all times. Thank you Rosemary for bringing this to our attention. Regards Lorraine Cowley
---------------------------------------- From: Rosemary Robins <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, October 07, 2011 5:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [obsnw] Observatory parks An objection has been lodged with the Mayco Member for Community Services by an Obs resident about the parks being locked. (Kiddies parks, dog park and general parks.) According to this resident, it is against the bye-laws and is demanding that they remain open 24/7. Much as safety and cleanliness issues have been mentioned, the resident is NOT interested. PLEASE, we must all stand together and fight this. The kiddies parks are a safe haven - no broken bottles, used needles, human faeces, etc. We cannot let one person destroy what has been fought for and what the community want. I have informed OBSID of the situation and they will start taking action asap. OCA I presume will also read this and react. As (very unofficial) curator of the dog park in Arnold, I will run a petition and collect signatures. Please, pooch owners, make an effort to either: * come to the library and sign or *fax an objection to me at 021 447 9507 or *email your objection to me (Please use my gmail address and not my capetown.gov.za) We cannot have our doggies dodging glass, needles, chicken bones, etc. This is an urgent matter as the volcanic ash is already spreading rather close.
