My belief is that the objector actually wants the parks open expressly so
that the parks will provide a place for vagrants to sleep.

Sadly there are some people who do not want to work with the programs that
have been set up by Obsid, the Social Issues Forum, the Council and many
other organisations to help homeless people to get a hand up and change
their lives for the better.

So these people actively enable the homeless to live on the streets - by
feeding them, giving them money, and providing them with places to sleep,
such as stoeps, gardens, and now, clearly, Observatory's parks.

There is no changing their attitudes. As Obsid we have tried to engage them
and been accused of all sorts of terrible things.

The more objections we receive, the less likely these unreasonable and
misguided people will get their way.

Regards
Justin

Subject: [obsnw] Re: Observatory parks

I am struggling to understand why the objector wants the parks to be
open 24/7. If the objector wishes to use the parks at any time, he or
she can simply obtain a key to do so like the rest of the Observatory
community. My family have lived in Obs for 14 years and in that time
we have seen the children's parks go from no-go zones to wonderful
centres of community life. The nannies, parents and children use the
parks (Station Road and Barrington Street) on a daily basis because we
know that our children's parks are safe areas for the youngest members
of the Observatory community to play. I would strenuously object to
the children's parks being open 24/7 and would not allow my children
to play in an area where they could be harmed by broken glass,
needles, rubbish and faeces. Unfortunately the reality is that if the
children's parks are not locked they will revert to their previous
state and the purpose for which they were intended (for children to
play in) will once again be lost to our community.

Thank you, Rosemary, for alerting us to this objection.
Yours sincerely
Tracy Blues

exactly what the objections are and if he/she wants to conform to

these precious "little spaces".  At present these parks are looking at the
best they have in a long time and if you have been in the area for some time
you have to acknowledge that there has been a vast improvement  - this due
to being secure and safe and the local residents accepting responsibility

weight behind your objection and give the residents your motivation for
wanting to conform to regulations.

by an Obs resident about the parks being locked. (Kiddies parks, dog park
and general parks.) According to this resident, it is against the bye-laws
and is demanding that they remain open 24/7.  Much as safety and cleanliness
issues have been mentioned, the resident is NOT interested. PLEASE, we must
all stand together and fight this. The kiddies parks are a safe haven - no
broken bottles, used needles, human faeces, etc.
