Hi Jo Anne
I am sticking my neck out a bit, but alas.
You are absolutely right , especially at speed, even in an emergency.
They would be totally in the wrong, if someone came out of a driveway or an
intersection, and drove into the vehicle or visa versa.
However, I too have crept through one way roads, in the wrong direction, at
night, with my car lights extinguished, on occasions while doing a patrol.
If the road was downhill, I have even switched the engine off, and crept
along, gravity doing the rest.
It is intended to catch a perpetrator by surprise.
Personally I would only do so in the dead of night, not a soul around, a wet
night or a dark night etc, but take rather extreme caution in doing so.
I know and have seen SAPS also doing so, even they would be in the wrong.
Obviously, by day it must not be done at all.
I however pardon myself when doing so at night, and continue all in the
cause of catching a criminal red handed.
I definitely caution VS doing this in the day but would be accommodating
them doing it at the dead of night with caution.
Your views are important, and we appreciate your alarm to the matter if VS
had done it recklessly, defiantly or carelessly.
Your further comments or rejection of this writing is welcome, and will
accept to conform.
Kind regards
James
