A letter from Teun Baartman
I have sent the following letter to the People's Post. Perhaps the CPF members are willing to publish it also via their respective channels. On 18 January Woodstock SAPS organised a function to say goodbye to Lieutenant-Colonel Riaan Redelinghuys, the Head Visible Policing of Woodstock Police Station. He is leaving to become Head of Detectives (Branch Commander) in Mfuleni. As former chairperson of Woodstock CPF I was given the opportunity to say a few things, but I would also like to do so publicly. Colonel Redelinghuys has served in the SAPS for just short of 29 years and the last 8 years he has been in Woodstock. He has had a great career so far and has occupied various posts. He has also continuously furthered his knowledge through studies and courses. As chair of Woodstock CPF I have worked closely with Colonel Redelinghuys and I have gained an enormous respect for him as a policeman, a manager and a person. What was mentioned time and again about him at the function are his vast experience, his discipline and his huge commitment. I fully agree with all that and want to add to that his sense of humour. Station Commander Colonel Ntsezo reminded the SAPS members present that the community is the client and that must always come first. I think that is something that Colonel Redelinghuys understands perfectly and he always works according to that principle. Many of the strides forward that have been made in Woodstock can be attributed to the work and influence of Colonel Redelinghuys and I have no hesitation in stating that the community of Woodstock/Observatory owes him a big debt of gratitude. It will be difficult to replace a policeman of this calibre. On behalf of Woodstock CPF and the Woodstock community I would like to express my thanks to Colonel Redelinghuys for his hard work in and dedication to our area. At the same time I wish him all the best in his new post and his future career. -- Teun Baartman Please consider the environment before you print this e-mail!! -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Observatory Neighbourhood watch" group.
