By the way, does anyone know if Lions Corner got its liquor licence? -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of pcb Sent: Monday, October 10, 2011 2:24 PM To: The Observatory Neighbourhood watch Subject: [obsnw] Re: "Lions Corner" Application for Liquor license
Just my tuppence worth though this may be more CID/OCA business than ONW stuff... I don't like the idea of a licenced establishment at Lion's Corner, too close to Magnet Theatre for one, which hosts lots of events for youth and children, and also because anything that will increase the incidence of noise, littering, parking problems and unsociable behaviour in this area, especially at night, is very definitely not cool. Woolworths has brought with it all the problems that we had with Teletech though weighted and scaled slightly differently; that could change. For the present, what I've noticed is that being a smaller operation the number of people who use the streets as private (or rather very public) smoking lounges, ashtrays, dirtbins, places to play loud music in cars, and once, a football pitch, is smaller. On the other hand we now have parking congestion in the area due to the number of staff who come to work in private vehicles. The area is relatively quiet at night and over weekends [and the aircon doesn't rattle the windows] but during the week the knock on is a traffic issue relating to the increased numbers of massive transport vehicles trying to manouevre around corners and in streets that were never designed to accommodate them in the first place. We all saw this coming when the OMF redevelopment was just an idea on paper; it will get worse if the planned residential development cnr Howe/Nelson is realised without sufficient attention to traffic density issues in the area.
