The Liesbeek is one of the finest rivers in the country. You woudl not
want to drink the water and I woudl not wnat to eat fish that came out
of there, but if you fell in or got splashed you should be fine.

There is regular water monitoring done,

The section in Obs does look rather manky at the moment - with all the
vegetation being removed you have a cleare view of the river You woudl
have noticed the regular maintence done by machine and by hand each
year and it never seems to make a difference.

If we all complained and commented via Facebook, Twitter, email,
writing to newspapers then perhaps the politicians woudl take more
notice. Their is a project named after Kader Asmal that is emplying
the jobless to clean wtaer ways - the Liesbeek being one and the Black
another - they gys on the black all have yellow Tshirts

Friends of the Liesbeek www,fol.org.za has a Liesbeek Maitnenace team
of 4 full time employees but we look after the River from its source
in Bishops Court all the way to its confluence with the Black at the
end of the River Club property.

The FOL team has been supplemented by a number of these Kader Asmal
workers and have worked the stretch which looks pretty barren now but
which is due for replanting soon.

Join the FOL and let your voice be heard - become an activist - even
and arnchair activist and write to the press and tell your friends.
Don't thro your old paint down the drain or your old car oil - because
guess where that ends up. If you see anyone doing such things check
our website and we provide numbers to call to make a report. Even the
soap from washing yard car in the street ends up in the Liesbeek so
think twice about that. Plenty of the litter in the river was dropped
in the streets surrounding and makes it way into the River with the
stormwater - so help stamp out littering.

These are just some of the things you can do
