Quite right Bev - the sign did prohibit fishing on grounds of
pollution, Not sure what they would say if you said you were throwing
the fish back - that sign might be gone now.

I would not eat stuff out that river but if you are starving it might
be another matter. I know for a fact that fisherman take the barbel
out and sell it for R30 a kilo. I ponce helped a guy catch fish and
then took him and his fish back to maitland - he must have had 30kilos
of fish or more - thats R1000!

I would think fishing should be encouraged as an appropriate
recreational use of  the river - but that the signs warn people it
might not be safe to eat the fish. Technically those fish are alien
invaders and should be removed but if you can;t eat them what a waste
so the anglers just throw them back.

There is a signage project going up so perhaps the dangers of eating
the fish can be highlighted.
