I recently learned from my own experience: Always
report anything to your insurance even if you do not want to
claim. your insurance in turn might or might not take it further.
Who for example is paying for your wall repair? Always insist on a case number. If SAPS does not want to give you one there 2 options from my gut feel. They are either too lazy or do not know better. I am sure the others here can give better advise, but I would certainly march to the station and insist to have this recorded on way or another. If they are not the right party they must tell you who is, maybe Traffic Police who surely must have an interest in that or even Metro. On second thoughts: If SAPS claims they are not the right people how come that SAPS makes road blocks checking driving licenses and license discs? They said they didn't need to open a case no as it was an accident.Surely this isn't right. Is there anyone else we can report the matter to? We have photographic evidence, an affidavit for insurance purposes and the neighbour admitted to the police that she'd been driving the car. I just don't see why she should get away with it. Luckily the damage to our wall was minimal but in other circumstances she could quite easily have injured or killed someone. She's still stubbornly maintaining she didn't do anything wrong and that having a learner's licence entitles her to drive solo.
