I stand by my comment that the War on Drugs has failed, and will always
fail. I have never said that drugs were not destructive, I say we need to
kae a new approach. I have not jad a family member or close friend get
addicted to drugs, but I know plenty addicted to alcohol and cigarettes

I'll say again I am personally in favour of legalization of all drugs or at
the very minimum decrininailation and no penalties for personal use.

The if we can split cannabis out of the mix and make that completely legal
we will be on our way to something. Jail is hardly a deterreant to someone
using drugs, selling drugs or couriering drugs.. The death penalty is not a
deterrent either else we woudl not have South Africans executed in China or
wherever they have these ridiculous penalties.

If you can honestly say current drug policy is working then fine, but maybe
you too should start looking to alternatives so you can help prevent other
families from going through what you have been through. Have you read up on
Portugals successes?

I see you are just as anti cannabis as the rest. So our kids (and us) are
told that cannabis is evil and bad and addictive and dangerous (Reefer
Madness) but when our kids finally take it they say that they have been
LIED to. DO you perhaps think that they then think they have been lied to
about the dangers of the oter drugs. They then go ahead and find out for
themselves with possibly tragic consequences. As Buzz wrote in his letter
to Zille (that I posted) it is a self fulfilling prophecy that cannabis is
a gateway drug by fact that to get it people have to be exposed to drug
dealers who often peddle a variety of other harmful substances. How else do
you explain millions of cannabis smokers who have never progressed to other
drugs.

No matter our opposing views it is good to get a conversation going. I just
present a different point of view. Perhaps the right solution will be in
the middle somwhere.
