Hi Rachel,

My two cents worth... there other who better quilfied to explainm in detail:

In Obs there are two types of security:

   - Alarm and Armed response - These are private comapnaies like ADT,
Chubb and Premier Secuirty. They have a mandate via paid subscription to
enter your property in the case of the alarm going off or a panic signal.
If you do not get the service you paid for, move your money. Profits talk!

   - Observatory Public Security (OPS)- This is visible public policing
provided by the Obsertvatory Inprovement District (OBSID). They can only
act on the public streets of Obs. This used to be outsoureced to Vetus
Scholar. They lost the contract on renewal in a fair tender process to
Securitas. Securitas is also the compay providing security services for the
   Groote Schuure Improvement District.

It is always a good idea to phone OPS on 021 447 1066 to report any crime
or suspicious activity. They will help with the vagarants as well. The vans
are deployed based on crime hotspots so best to report eveything to them.
This helps them work out the hotspots.

Regards

Andrew
