At approx, 17.50 Friday 17th October 2014, a young Italian female
became the 2nd victim of the day to be defrauded at the ATM in
Station Road. Whilst drawing money and placing her cash into her
purse, apparently 4 or 5 persons standing behind her loudly urged
her to place her card back into the ATM machine, saying that if
not the machine would stop working and they would not be able to
use the ATM after her. She reluctantly done so but immediately
became suspicious that something was wrong as her card would not
come out again, and two African men ran away into Nuttall Road.
Shouting loudly to stop the men a gentleman responded, ran after
them and nearly managed to stop one of the assailants jumping into
a silver VW Golf sedan, which was parked in front of the Shoe
Shop, and then sped away. The young lady sustained a heavy blow
to the right eye but soon afterwards had her bank card blocked.
It is suspected that the other persons behind her had taken the
card from the machine and left in the opposite direction. The
gentleman who pursued the men suffered a few scratches to his arm
and back. The Tops Bottle store attendants/security also saw the
happenings, assisted the chase and subsequently assisted the
distressed young lady. A resident noted part of the registration
plate as - - X258GP and was able to have a good look at one of the
assailants, her contact details are known to me. Incidentally,
the OBSID Security Mobile trailer was parked across the road from
the ATM for a few days, but as noted by the 'Tops' manager, it was
moved to somewhere else today, and this was the second ATM
incident of the day. It is hoped that the 'Tops' cameras may have
recorded the incident. Anyone else with information is asked to
