On the other hand, treating all car guards as de facto criminals is not
right. I know one car guard who was instrumental in helping out in various
difficult situations - without payment - and yet was treated as a suspect
by community and police during those times.

While car guards are often a little too boisterous for my personal liking,
and I'm sure occasionally participate in crime, I'm happy to have one on my
street and feel safer for him being there. He is foreign, earns very
little, and has got into trouble because he hasn't bribed police when they
expected it.

I want less of a "solution to the car guard problem" and more of a "what
are some creative ways the Obs community can partner with car guards?"
keeping some of the concerns raised in mind.

Regards
Roger
