I agree with Dan Saks points. We have to make it quite clear to all who think Observatory is ripe and an easy target... that this will be the last attempt they ever make. The access in all directions for quick getaway is urgently needing attention. Informing SAPS or OPS with a description of the vehicle which is tracked as it exits the area will make interception a much stronger certainty. We need to motivate this ‘comprehensive camera on the exit points upgrade’ for the benefit not only of Observatory, but also to track all exiting or entering between City and various suburbs for the City as a whole. Extra funding should be from local businesses, UCT, the City and a whole city wide funding drive to track all getaway routes, giving pinpoint accuracy to stop a getaway vehicle within 5 or 10 minutes, which is not only putting an end to criminals of this kind getting away and linking the evidence so they never commit crime again but it would also be cheaper than long drawn out search processes that probably have a very low success rate even though it may waste a lot of time. My wife spoke to the police shortly afterwards as we live close by and heard the shot. I believe the police found part of a gun in the road. I am not exactly clear on what this means. But it does reflect a scary escalation in the type of crime in the neighborhood. And the close proximity of the highway does make a quick getaway easier. Are there cameras at the gateway ? It would strategically be a good point. Maybe Mill stock cars can come up with something. A lady from No:17 was attacked by an African man whilst getting out of her car in the parking bay in front of her apartment. She defended herself and screamed for help which frightened her assailant who ran down Norfolk, turned into Clifton Terrace where a waiting car(looked like a red Toyota Corolla) was waiting for him. When I came out of my house, I saw the man turning into Clifton Terrace and when he saw me he raised his right hand and what sounded like a shot went off, I did not see a gun in his hand, but definitely heard what sounded like a gunshot, The Police were called and took a statement from me.
