FWIW, that's what we have in Debian: http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/octave-ann/1.0.2+dfsg-2/autoload-no.diff http://patch-tracker.debian.org/patch/series/view/octave-ann/1.0.2+dfsg-2/warn-clear-all-at-init.diff I should note however that I don't consider this a permanent solution. If no one cares about the ann package in octave-forge proper, it will be removed from Debian at some point.
