Hi all, numerous bugs filed in handhelds.org bugzilla appear to be neither related to packages distributed by handhelds.org (Familiar or Intimate) nor packages where handhelds.org is upstream. Some probably qualify as bugs in the OE metadata, some as missing device adaptation (OpenZaurus), some as upstream bugs in packages distributed by OpenZaurus.
In the past I used to close bugs like that, but occasionally people took
offense on that and I would like to come to an agreement with all
parties involved now.
I believe the current situation is unsatisfactory for all of us:
- The bugs in question appear as open bugs in handhelds.org bugzilla
even though only OE/OZ can fix them.
- Developers who check for open bugs in what would seem the "right
place" (AIUI, OE bugzilla) may miss bug reports hiding in
handhelds.org bugzilla.
- Users probably wonder why "nobody cares".
To address the problem, I suggest to
- consider closing bugs in hh.org bugzilla and redirecting people to
OpenZaurus as what it is, a mere admistrative task that's not meant
as an offense or anything
- ask OpenZaurus users to always file bugs in the bug tracker of their
distribution first (AIUI, OE bugzilla). The maintainer of the package
knows best whether it's an OpenZaurus bug or an upstream one, and
which place is right to report upstream bugs
Does that sound reasonable?
Regards,
Rene
PS: I'm not subscribed to openzaurus-devel
PPS: Bcc'ing [EMAIL PROTECTED] to have this archived there (as bugzilla is
affected) but limit the cross posting impact.
