As an end-user of OpenZaurus, this seems like the most sane way to handle these kinds of issues. Theoretically, the distro pkg maintainers would be best equipped to determine if it's a distro or upstream bug, and provide a pointer to the correct upstream defect tracker. Just my 2c on the issue.
