Why not make a screen saver (or have a second monitor) that goes the appropriate colour?
Its a cheap easy solution if you have a spare monitor.
The other obvious question here is, how come you dont you have send an email to your mobile?
I am not sure what "fully computer driven" means, but if you had implemented an Asterisk based PABX solution, emailing is built in and you could have an email sent for a fax (just a notification email) or a voice message.

Since we have finally moved our fax and answerphone to fully-computer-driven/emailed, I
no longer have a physical red answerphone light to tell me whether we received anything
while I was out.
So I got one of these for $7:

Combining that with our Webwatch ap (http://webcentre.co.nz/webwatch.htm) means we are
monitoring relevant directories for faxes, calls and (especially) server-error emails, and
turning the light to different colours as required. The light is turned off whenever we load our
email to check for the things it has flagged.
Basically, if we come in the office door and see that the light is blue or green, that means it is
a fax or phone message, so we can ignore it if we want and look at it later, or the following
day. But if it is red or fuchsia, we know a reportable server error has happened - though we
will of course have already been txted anyway, if it were a repeating error.
Since there may be a dozen other uses for a "stuff done/spotted" signal light like this one, I
thought I'd mention it. <g>
