I am running D2207 and/or XE2, along with Firefox, Windows Live Mail and Process Explorer on Windows 7 32 bit and 4GB memory. I have been trying to tune Windows so that it doesn't start thrashing.
This means not go over 3.2GB memory in use (this is about the limit for 32 bit Windows 7 - the rest is used for caching). I have been using latest Process Explorer and Windows 7 Resource Monitor tools to diagnose - both excellent. Windows ~1GB Firefox 400-600MB + 100MB for Plugin Container D2007 BDS 140-200MB Windows Live Mail 200-450MB Often I find the hard disk starts thrashing even though Process Explorer implies nothing is that active, so I tend to think it must be Windows system activity even though the memory in use should not be causing swapping. Sometimes also at startup as well after logging in...ie before programs are running. Files in use often seem to be System Volume information, Pagefile.sys and files within Delphi IDE folders Programs writing to disk lots are often System or cmdagent.exe (Comodo firewall) and Firefox sometimes, and BDS (Delphi) I tried setting the swap file size to 4.6GB (recommended figure) fixed size, and defragmented the entire disk including the swap and hibernate files (as far as I can tell). But disk thrashing still occurs quite often. (I presume a fixed swap size should be better than letting Windows manage the swap size which I imagine will fragment it). Other than closing some programs at quite modest memory uses (eg currently 2.2-2.5GB) can anyone suggest how to better tune a Windows 7 PC?
