Personally, I'd much prefer two regular 19" LCDs over a widescreen, especially with the use of UltraMon (www.ultramon.com <http://www.ultramon.com>) to handle things like multiple taskbars.
I Recently purchased a couple of 21" CRTs off trademe for home and run them side by side 1600x1200x2 which is a lot of screen area. I'm on the lookout for some better ones (matching would be nice as well). On a good 21"-22" CRT you can run up to 2048x1536 (3 megapixels). The downside is that their combined weight is about 60kg and they take up most of the desk, but can't complain too much as I paid $50 for one and $65 for the other. If you are on the look out for a good screen you can fairly easily get a 21" trinitron or apature grill screen for around $300 off trademe, and the picture quality, resolution & refresh rate is likely better than you'll get out of any LCD. They are a pig on power usage however - so high running costs.
