SteveL> This may just be me, but I hate the term "SIGs"... it's just too SteveL> politically negative to me... from US politics with special interest SteveL> groups funding negative attack campaigns.
As someone who also lives in the US and pays close attention to politics, I have the same dislike for that term. SteveL> Unfortunately I don't have a better alternative at the moment. I SteveL> prefer "Communities" to SIGs, but I appreciate Jim's reasoning for SteveL> wanting to ditch the term. Here are some thoughts: * The most accurate terms IMO would be "micro-community" to replace SIGs and macro-community to refer to OpenSolaris in the large. These terms are somewhat clumsy though for everyday use. * We already have user-groups. Most communities/SIGs that don't fall into the user-group bucket seem to be technology related. In other words, it seems to be generally true (though not completely true) that the thing that ties each group together is a common interest in a particular technology. Therefore I wonder if "technology groups" (or perhaps "tech groups" for short) might be a helpful term? -- John http://blogs.sun.com/jbeck
