We have a polling mechanism on poll.os.o specifically for
such questions. They don't even need to be part of any member
meeting, formal ballot or other "election" focused effort.
We've used the mechanism before to test the polling software;
I believe it is appropriate to ask the OGB or any CG to sponsor
such a poll.
On the other hand, I'm not as sure about the advisability of doing
so :-)
That is, it can be done, and you can do it via a CG or the OGB,
but, since I'm not sure that there is anything worthwhile that we
could actually *do* if the result of the poll was anything other
than "accept the status quo", it might be better to simply not
ask the question. Maybe I'm wimping out, as I'm as sick of this
topic as everyone else.
