Delay compared to *what*? Sun never really managed more than a vague hope of when things might be released. Even under Sun, the desired 6-month cadence never materialised. Oracle have no obligations to meet arbitrary deadlines that the former masters of OpenSolaris might have invented. Who knows, they may come up with a completely different schedule that works out better? In terms of what Oracle have said in public, the release is a long way from being late. All they've said that that it *will* be released, and in the first half of CY 2010. That's been pushed out as officially as its likely to get, for example at the Sun/Oracle customer welcome events. The link I have to hand for the presentations they've been giving is here: http://developers.sun.ru/techdays2010/reports/OracleSolarisTrack/TD_STP_OracleSolarisFuture_Roberts.pdf (It's from Tech Days, but it's essentially the same as the talk I sat through. The important bits are about halfway through.) It would be nice to have Oracle interacting with us as a community directly rather than using its normal customer communication channels, but I guess the behaviour is pretty much ingrained into the company culture. For that to imporove we have to show that we as a community behave as a mature and respectable partner, and that an open communication channel is to Oracle's benefit. Which means the community has to grow up. -- -Peter Tribble http://www.petertribble.co.uk/ - http://ptribble.blogspot.com/ _______________________________________________ ogb-discuss mailing list ogb-discuss@opensolaris.org http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/ogb-discuss
