In terms of valuation, Cisco and MS have been running neck and neck for some
time. Because MS's value is based on something intangible and they have
"issues" their stock tends to be more volatile.

MS's stock fell closely in pace with the Nasdaq (not supprising as to a
large extent MS drives the index), then FELL MORE on the Monday two weeks
ago after the proposed settlement was announced and MS lowered its earnings
expectations in the same weekend.

Cisco fell along with the index, also.

Mathematically, if you take out the effects of "bad news" Cisco edges out MS
by a small margin, as they did in November. However there is NO TELLING
where MS's stock would be had they never been subject to this anti-trust
suit...

Incidentally, most analysts agree that the proposed breakup would lead to a
HIGHER valuation for Microsoft's stock than if they stay together. Why?
Imagine what MS's HUGE software development org. (Office, etc) would be able
to do if they could target multiple platforms...

Back to topic.
